Here's a preview of a story on white Christmas Cakes and Cookies from this months issue of Norwegian magazine Maison Mat & Vin.

the sweetest gift.

You might remember a post that I made a while ago about a lovely old blue typewriter that I absolutely fell in love with at a Sunday market here in Oslo. I was able to borrow it from photographer André Skjegstad, and when I returned it I promised myself that I would look all over for one just like it.

I searched all over…. and seasons came and went.

Recently I joined my colleague and friend Trine Thorsen for a dinner at her beautiful old home outside of Oslo that she is tirelessly in the middle of refinishing. Out of nowhere Trine left the room, and when she returned, my eyes were wide with shock!
Trine had found a typewriter just like the one we had used the summer before… and she and Susanne Swegen had bought it for me as a gift! I was astounded. It truly was one of the most thoughtful gifts I have received.

I am so thankful to my good friends, and so very much in love with my new typewriter. I have been using it instead of my printer - writing recipes and shopping lists and notes…. It makes the most beautiful sound, and stamps the most fantastic text.
Amazing!

julemarked.

The colourful invitation has arrived, and has been designed by the very talented illustrator and artist Cecilie Ellefsen!

This years Designers eget Julemarked will be held on December 4th and 5th at DogA in Oslo.
The Julemarked (...or Christmas market for my English speaking friends) is a wonderful place to stroll around on a lazy weekend with family and friends.
I visited my first Christmas in Oslo... and discovered lovely handmade items designed right here in Norway - so special!

For the first time, I will be packing up my designs and bringing them with me to my little half a table for two days.
Standing instead of shopping (..but I am sure I will figure out a way to be buying things at the same time...)
I hope very much to see you there!

november recipe.

Chocolate, Orange and Almond Biscotti.

Note: Biscotti can be stored in the freezer in an airtight container for up to one month and enjoyed as soon as defrosted. The biscotti will be hard and crispy even after being frozen - and is perfect dunked in coffee!

You will need:

250 g flour

100 g ground oatmeal

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon finely ground sea salt

6 tablespoons butter, softened

100 g granulated sugar

75 g brown sugar

2 large organic eggs

zest of one large orange

75 g almonds – roughly chopped

150 g milk chocolate bar – cut into chunks

……………………………………………..

Mix together flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl and set aside.

In another bowl with an electric mixer cream together both sugars until fluffy.

Add eggs, butter and orange zest.

Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

Add chocolate chunks and almonds to dough and mix well.

Flour hands and a work surface, and shape dough into a loaf (about 10 cm wide and 25-30 cm long).

Place dough on a cookie sheet.

Bake in 165 degree oven for 20 minutes.

Remove loaf from pan and reduce oven temperature to 150 degrees.

Cool loaf for 15 minutes.

Cut loaf on the diagonal into slices. This is a rustic biscotti so be sure to cut slices thick to avoid slices from crumbling.

Return biscotti pieces cut side down onto cookie sheet.

Bake slices at 150 degrees for approximately 30 minutes or until dry and firm.

Biscotti will harden and become crispy as they cool.

Makes 1 dozen biscotti.

a black and white garden.

I am always looking forward to the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week (well… at least through images). This past October, Chanel walked the spring 2011 collection through the most elegant black and white garden at the Grand Palais.
Soft pale colours with light tweeds, ribbons and feathers, beading and fine details were all on display.
Thank you Mr. Lagerfeld.
I am now counting the days until spring.

new neckline.

I have been working on some neckpieces for the coming winter that can double as a scarf. I tried this one yesterday, and it worked quite well over my wool coat.

You see, I love army green outerwear... but I am more of a black coat girl. So I went for something in the middle of the two, and it and was quite ok!

Made from material I dug around for in Canada, mixed with some black and white pom-poms from a trip to Copenhagen.
